Coffee in Japan

A coffee

Getting a cup of coffee in Japan is unlike anywhere else. You might walk into a cafe and be third in line, but it might take you 45 minutes to make it to the front of the line. Service is slow and intentional.

They are not interested in how many cups they can get out per hour, or the amount of people they serve. They are interested in preserving the way in which they do wha they do.

I find this is an embodiment of Ihsan - pursuing excellence in what it is that you do, even if it does not make ‘wordly sense’.

You might not get a coffee at the exact time that you want, but you can be sure that the coffee you do get is made intentionally.

And I just love that they have pourover available everywhere…
