Picturesque Iceland

Written by Khadija Zafar

They say 1 in 4 Icelanders become authors, and it’s easy to see why. The tranquility of their nature is unlike anything else. Sit in nature for 10 minutes with nothing but the wind, and your brain settles down. Thoughts, deep reflections and poetic verses come to mind where our minds are usually racing with work and our endless to-dos.

As we hiked above a valley and up a mountain, we observed the movements of the clouds. A reminder that shadows in our lives drift away on the breeze, they are never permanent. Glacier melt rushed into the valley, another reminder that all things melt away with time. We are as strong and resilient as the flowing of a stream. The fog eventually lifts as the day wears on, and just when you think you’ve seen so much beauty, we are reminded of the vastness of Allah SWT’s creations.

As we sat in a remote valley, I felt the comforting warmth of the sun's rays. Listening to the faint rushing of a waterfall, we could feel the peace. Driving past towering mountains with tumbling waterfalls, I felt inspiration from this beautiful landscape. Inspiration to look for the beauty even in our daily lives as well. Iceland ignited a spark, that although we were but brief visitors to the land, we can learn to seek the same sense of awe in our own homes.
